Wow, it's quiet as a graveyard in here.
Anybody (okay, pun intended) have any ideas for a Halloween barn dance
line-up?

Here is a good halloween song for you KateH. I wrote this about 5 years
ago. Can't send you the music but it is in the key of A minor. Here are
the words:

THE WITCH'S DREAM

Now listen to me children, be careful how you play

There's dangers all about you take the straight and narrow way

The Tarot's not just a deck of cards, there is no golden road

Just a trail of pain and sorrow, till you cannot bear the load

CHORUS

The witch's dream is endless you can hear the mournful sound

As the darkness wraps about you hear the wail of Satan's hounds

Down pitch black halls the demon calls at the devils you will scream

There's no escape no road to take, if your caught in the witch's dream

The Ouji board is not a toy leave the witches to their brew

Familiar spirits lay in wait, just to plant their hooks in you

No more on earth you will enjoy a comfort or a friend

Instead a witch's dream will be the passage to your end

Black Mirrors and black candles are the toolbox of the damned

The cauldrons are a gurgling you can hear that chilling sound

Night it is a fallin', the magic circle's drawn

The witches will be dreamin' until the break of dawn

C YA

Wow! Okay, that creeps me out....really nicely. Smile
A few years ago, I made a mask of my face and built a life-size, witch with
it. She stands guard at the front door each Halloween, with her cauldron,
broom and dancing ghosts. Sounds like the perfect theme song for her! :)

Here's a Halloweeny-one I wrote a couple of years ago for an Irish news
group. The Irish New Year was just after Halloween..... long, long ago.
Then they have this whole thing about the "crossroads"....that's carried
over into so many bluegrass songs. Never thought to put it to music. :)

CROSSROADS
Standing at the crossroads

Paralyzed by fear

Neither fall nor winter

Neither there, nor here

The brand new year is dawning

Tomorrow with the sun

Tonight though, worlds collide

And the impact leads to fun

Of an otherwordly nature

An ethereal charade

When the spirits of the night

Come together to parade

Though most mortals pale and stay indoors

The children seem to glow

And cats and dogs will howl away

The night, as if they know

That tonight is somehow different

Than the next one or the last

And the future is as certain

As the dimly shadowed past

When the spirits of the night

Seemed delighted to step out

And they'd scare us, near to death

If we went wandering about

Or stood too near the crossroads

Paralyzed by fear

Neither dreaming nor awake

At the closing of the year.

Thanks, for sharing, Mitch!

I just learned that one. Great tune.....there's a good youtube site with
the Country Gentlemen performing it. Just ran across the Brown Mountain
Lights, too. Very cool and spookey.
Thanks!

Long Black Veil

Original Lyrics and Music by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin

[D]Ten years ago on a cold dark night
There was [A]someone killed 'neath the [G]town hall [D]light
There were few at the scene, but they all agree
That the [A]slayer who ran looked a [G]lot like [D]me

The judge said son what is your alibi
If you were [A]somewhere else then [G]you won't have to [D]die
I spoke not a word though it meant my life
For I had [A]been in the arms of my [G]best friend's [D]wife

She [G]walks these [D]hills
In a [G]long black [D]veil
She [G]visits my [D]grave
When the [G]night winds [D]wail
Nobody knows, [G]nobody [D]sees,
[G]nobody [A]knows but [D]me

The [D]scaffold's high and eternity near
She [A]stood in the crowd and [G]shed not a [D]tear
But [D]sometimes at night when the cold wind blows
In a [A]long black veil she [G]cries o'er my [D]bones

She [G]walks these [D]hills
In a [G]long black [D]veil
She [G]visits my [D]grave
When the [G]night winds [D]wail
Nobody knows, [G]nobody [D]sees,
[G]nobody [A]knows but [D]me
[G]Nobody [A]knows but [D]me
[G]Nobody [A]knows but [D]me
