----- Hello Friends and Music Fans,

The Carolina Jug Stompers "Out on a Limb Tour 2008" starts in a couple
of weeks and takes us to New York City; Hoboken & Bayonne, NJ; Suffern,
NY; West Chester, PA; and Washington, DC. I hope to see many of you
along the way, and please help us by forwarding this e-mail and passing
the word to your east coast pals.

The Carolina Jug Stompers perform classic jug band music and ragtime,
etc., with rich vocals and expert instrumentals, by four fine musicians:
Luke Faust (jug), Ron Cole (fiddle), Randy Johnson (mandolin, guitar),
WB Reid (banjo-guitar). Lively songs and exciting instrumentals covering
everything from gin to chickens, performed with great fun and enjoyment.
You'll hear songs we all know and love, along with ancient treasures
unearthed from the crypt of old 78s that we're sure you've never heard.

Check out www.old97wrecords.com/carolinajugstompers for more info and
sound clips.

And here's what a couple of folks had to say about our CD, "Rooster On A
Limb" released in 2005:

"Y'all got the right feeling, that's for sure! The right
'attack,' the good old-time rhythm..." --R. Crumb

"...a throwback to the early days of Cannon's Jug Stompers
and the Even Dozen and Kweskin jug bands of the '60s."
-- Sing Out Magazine

Many thanks,
WB Reid, Seattle, WA

---------------- More about The Carolina Jug Stompers ---------------
The Carolina Jug Stompers bring high level musicianship to a branch of
roots music vital to the development of jazz, rock and roll, pop, and
folk. The jugbands of the 1920s were among the first jazz musicians,
and their surviving recordings were a major influence on musicians such
as the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, and The Lovin' Spoonful. Now this
all-star quartet, launched by the critically acclaimed CD "Rooster On A
Limb," present a feast of classic jug band songs on topics from gin to
chickens, spiced with rare ragtime pieces and more modern jazz tunes
retro-arranged into an earlier form. Fine singers all, they offer a
rich blend of vocal harmonies backed by improvised acoustic instrumental
work. And they love the music and making it together, making for an
infectious energy and all around good time wherever they perform.
Luke Faust, wizard of the mysterious art of jug blowing, has been a
musician's musician around New York City for decades, playing with The
Holy Modal Rounders among other groups and in the legendary 60s
Greenwich Village folk scene. Ron Cole, called "the maven of Hokum",
plays a slippery fiddle style steeped in his vast collection of rare 78
rpm records. Known for his mastery of all strings old-timey, Randy
Johnson, defines versatility while setting the standard for the band on
both vocals and instrumentals. WB Reid, of The Todalo Shakers and The
Bing Bang Boys, adds his unparalleled driving touch on the banjo-guitar,
a largely forgotten instrument once played by Papa Charlie Jackson and
Django Reinhart.

That's right, folks. Randy Johnson (also a member of that hot old-time
band Waking Up Tillie) is a featured attraction in the upcoming
Carolina Jug Stompers Concert. Ron Cole, W.B. Reid, and Luke Faust
round out the line-up. It will be a fun-filled show!

The performance of interest to those in our area (SE PA, N DE, S NJ,
NE MD) is the one in West Chester, PA. It's this Saturday night at 7
PM at the Chester County Historical Society, 225 N. High Street, West
Chester, PA. Go to www.westchesterfolk.org for further details, if
you dare.

Pete and I wouldn't miss it for the world. Okay, if the entire planet
were at stake we might reconsider ....
