10-13-73 Winterland
Steve Miller
King Crimson
Dalton & Dubarri
I remember almost nothing about this show other than the fact that I went.
Dalton & Dubarri were good, I think they were a country-rock outfit.
King Crimson had of course lost Greg Lake a few years previous, but they
were very enjoyable, Robert Fripp was always interesting. I never got into
their post-greg Lake albums much.
This was my third and last time seeing Steve Miller. "The Joker" album had
just come out IIRC, and Stevie had begun to see that the money was in pop
singles. Not that I blame a guy for wanting to be paid well for years of
hard work, but this was about the point where he sold out. His music
suffered, but his wallet got fat. |

And just what the heck is "the pompitus (sp?) of love", anyway? Yeah, "The
Joker" started a whole string of pop hits for Miller. They were good if you
had a car with only an AM radio, because they were better than most of what
they were playing on AM; but given an FM radio or a turntable or tape deck,
forget it! Give me Space Cowboy or Living In The USA or Quicksilver Girl or
my favorite, Your Saving Grace, what a great song!

I'd go if I was you. He's done the solo thing before, so my guess is it
won't be that way this time. I haven't seen the Kinks live since 1972, but
their live freebies are always good. I have one more recent one too of
Davies with a band, and it's most excellent.- Hide quoted text -
