Dear all,

on my CD edition of Love over Gold, in the song Telegraph Road, there
is a short glitch in the sound at about 3.35 into the song. In the
second verse, during the line, "Then there was the hard times, then
there was a war", the sound moves to the right channel, the left
channel somewhat silences, and then comes back to normal stereo. You
can listen to it following the link:

http://www.speedyshare.com/665980784.html

(listen carefully, the glitch is not very dramatic, but quite
audible.)

I have found this glitch on LP editions from Holland (around 1987,
markedted by phonogram), and on my CD (markedted by phonogram), made
in W. Germany, bought 1991. The CD booklet states on the last page,
"manufactured by Polygram in Hannover, West Germany"; the CD itself,
however, does not carry any reference to the manufacturing plant. But
on the label, it states, made in W. Germany.

On very early vinyl editions of this album, made in W. Germany around
1982/83, with reference to the German record company on the back cover
("aus dem Hause phonogram"), this gltich was not present.

Do you have CDs (original master or remastered) where the glitch is
not present?

Best regards

I have a copy of the "Alchemy" double-album (a compilation of their stuff)
which has what I believe to be the same recording of the song, but I cannot
hear the glytch, so it probably isn't there, because I have a good ear and
such things would normally grate on me even if I wasn't looking for it.

Alchemy is a live album, at least here in Europe. The live recording
is somewhat different than the studio recording; at least, a different
drummer. Alchemy (the live album) was recorded 1983 and includes their
favourite songs of that time.

On their compilation album, Money for Nothing, 1988 they included only
the live recording of Telegraph Road, not the original studio
recording from Love Over Gold.

On the 1999 compilation album (Sultans of Swing), Telegraph Road was
not included.

However, on the last compilation album, Privat Investigations (the
best of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler), the studio recording of
Telegraph Road is included. I don't have this album so I don't know
whether the sound glitch is still present or if htey have restored the
recording.
