**Still in CT with a crappy, demeaning retail job but I'm enjoying my
coworkers and my paycheck I have to tell you this: I'm shocked at
the amount of youngins that love ABBA. The other day, Dancing Queen
came pouring out of the PA system at work and two girls started
singing. Another coworker comes around the corner singing and dancing
to the tune. She said that whenever this song comes on, she and
coworker Mike start singing and dancing to it. I was like, daaaay-um!
This is cool.
On the flip side, I'm amazed at the amount of people who don't know of
Amy Winehouse. I love her music but I'm bothered by how fucked up she
is. It's probably being selfish but I want her to make more music and
she just wants to die.
How are you doin' Kevin?!

Goin' crazy as usual! My 98 Dodge Avenger died on I-96 the other night.
Timing belt broke. It took out some valves and will take some more money and
lots of time to get it fixed completely - just have to find a mechanic who
knows how to do it - not the shops that want me to just buy a rebuilt motor
for $3800! One retired mechanic my brother in Battle Creek knows thinks it's
one bad intake valve on the third cylinder that has zero compression - he's
seen it many times before. If it ever does get fixed, it will be my new
backup car. I'm trading in my ancient 87 Chevy Beretta and getting a new
Cobalt XFE (high gas mileage Chevy) so I can have reliable transportation
again and save money on repairs and gas (thank you GMAC!). The poor Beretta
is a stink machine now and bleeding power steering fluid. I've been getting
LOTS of walking in, but no big poundage loss.
Get ready for more young ABBA fans after Mamma Mia the movie hits. I noticed
it after the first musical played in town (the ABBA The Music show at Pine
Knob that year had 11,000 people!!! - It was in Pollstar) I missed seeing
Ulf and the others at Meadowbrook because of my car issues Sunday. Glad I
hadn't bought tickets yet.
I saw today on the wire that Amy has emphysema - very sad!
Glad you like your co-workers... that really helps in many jobs - probably
most!! I've braved some tough situations before just because the people had
become family - eventually the idiots leave and all is well again.
We had a great Smooth JazzFest... check out the pictures I took at wvmv.com

**Nasty!! Stupid interference engines! I just leased a new Impreza.
It's the basic Impreza 2.5i hatchback. I had an 05 Impreza RS
Sportwagon with a paltry 12,400 miles on it. I turned it in. Know why?
Because I couldn't stand the fact that one paycheck didn't cover my
car payment and it ate into the next paycheck also. Just starting a
new job after such a long stretch of unemployment, I want to sock away
the dough NOW. Happily, I save $110 a month and when it comes time to
turn it in, I'll either lease again (depends how this experience goes)
or buy something.

**My job is VERY physical (lots of walking, lifting, etc.) and I've
lost some weight but, more importantly, I've muscled up. After
spending 12 years in front of a computer, I was jello. The first two
months of work were absolute HELL, my back was a MESS. Then, it got
better and better and now I can work long shifts without any
repercussions.

**I got some ABBA in the mail today! Woot! First off, though, did you
see Mamma Mia the Movie yet? Verdict?
Secondly, as you know, long unemployment = no CD/DVD buying. I bit my
lip and didn't purchase anything. Any special ABBA/Amy/anyCD/anyDVD
etc etc that hit the shelves, I bypassed. I would make a note of it
(and, boy, did I amass a list!) and hope that it would still be
available when I got a job. Just recently, I crossed a certain comfort
threshold on my savings account where I've decided that I can buy some
things that I've had my eye on. So, today, I received ABBA - Arrival:
Deluxe Edition with ABBA DABBA DOO on DVD. I already have that video,
of course, but to see it (and the other goodies) on DVD just put a
giant smile on my face!! I keep looking at the Musikladen video and I
marvel at the clarity.
There's a vendor on Amazon, ImportCD, who is selling this stuff at
amazing prices. I started researching some of the Carola music that I
had missed. I checked my usual site, skivhugget, and found that they
had megastore.se assume their international business. Megastore
stinks! They hardly have any merchandise (well, at least of the
artists that I'm interested in) and the shipping is exorbitant! On a
whim, I checked Amazon US for Carola and found a ton of stuff at a
decent price! It was this ImportCD company. They will be receiving a
lot of money in the next few months while I catch up with my Swedish
CD intake.
Of course, I get confused with the Sound & Vision versions and the
Deluxe Edition versions. I think there are three Sound & Vision CDs:
Waterloo, ABBA and Arrival and two Deluxe Editions: Arrival and The
Album. Is this right?

**I think she was in there for heart problems, frankly. I think her
dad was talking out his ass when he spoke of emphysema. Check out the
wax figure of her by Madame Tussaud's. It's fantastic. Of course, it's
the non-crackhead version of Wino.

I really liked it. Saw it 2x. Most of it is better than the live musical,
IMHO - and I liked the musical, but that's fun in its own way.
Amanda Seyfried did a real nice job on most of her songs (she's also the
best Sophie I've seen) and Meryl did way way better than the clips
they keep showing! Songs are doing well on the download charts and the
soundtrack and ABBA Gold are selling very well.
The acting was good as you'd expect... but the funny thing - when I first
saw the musical a few years ago at the Masonic I thought of
the Christine Baranski character being just like Christine Baranski's
character on Cybil the way the actress had played her. To see it played by
Christine Baranski was a treat, but she made it a little different than her
Cybil character. If you get what I mean...

I don't have the Sound & Vision versions but I do have the Deluxe Editions
and I'm quite happy with both.
I think the best Agnetha ever looked was the London interview on Arrival DE
and singing the Japanese TV version
of The Name Of The Game. Of course, as you know, I've always had a thing for
her. Especially the way she looked from 1975-1978.

Thank you! Jessy J is very young (I think early 20s) but lots of
potential... plays sax, flute and keyboards. Besides being good looking,
she's very nice and she seems smart.
She had the number one Smooth Jazz hit in the country with "Tequila Moon"
for I think 8 straight weeks! Pretty good for her first release!!! Hope she
doesn't blow it like others have.
