What mp3 bitrate would be sufficient for a near-perfect reproduction
of CD-quality sound? Would most listerners be able to distinguish the
two when mp3's are at 128 or 196kbps? |

I don't think most listeners could tell that an audio file has been
compressed if the bit rate is 160 or higher. But you can certainly run
the compressed audio file through a wav editor & see the difference
clearly in the wav form.
Beethoven, of course, couldn't have told the difference between an
uncompressed audio file & a compressed one, no matter what the
bitrate. But we cut da Dude some slack.
