I was at the Chicago tour stop, and it was absolutely incredible! I've been
to a few MK shows in the past few years, and this was the first time he
didn't feel compelled to play the standards (Money for Nothing, Telegraph
Road, What it is, etc). While i *love* those songs, it would be nice to
hear a change of pace - he didn't play Rudiger, for once, though he did
include Romeo and Juliet and So Far Away. I was hoping R&J would be a duet,
but no such luck.
With Ms Harris in tow, I was looking forward to hearing some of his more
country tunes, like How Long and When it Comes to You, but he surprised me
even more - he came back out with Emmylou Harris to sing "Shangri-La", which
I'd wanted to hear since I heard he closed some of the shows on his last
tour with it (not at the stop I saw), but then he CLOSED with "Why Worry
Now"!
That is a song I never thought i'd hear live, if only because it's from so
long ago, and he already plays so many from that album. It was such a
pleasure to hear a show closed, and seeing couples slow-dancing in the
aisles, in such an unpredictable way.
I'm glad i didn't go looking for reviews before i went to the show - I knew
it wouldn't be a letdown! |
