Unfortunately I only was able to listen to half of it yesterday, so
I'm grateful for this upload! Certainly this was one of the most
intriguing finds of the last month on the radio and I can only wonder
why Audite hadn't already jumped to reissue this in its Kubelik
series.

Thanks for this excellent upload.

Unfortunately, although I like most of Messiaen's music, this piece
has, on first listening, beaten me. It seems to be dreadfully static,
with little of the intensity of his other music. Do others rate it
highly, and if so why?

Many thanks for this.
The older I get the more I'm learning to appreciate Messiaen.

I just downloaded these files, but when I try to unzip them, I get
nothing (an empty folder for one; an error for the other). I'm on a Mac
- are these zipped in some arcane way that makes Mac users unable to
use them?

I think you have to join these files first into one large ZIP file. (with
Windows, we use HJ-Split, as Alex wrote)

Oh. Thrills. Why not just post two zip files, each containing a bunch
of files? I don't know why people who share files like this have to
complicate things...

Nevermind; as much as I'd like to hear it, I can live without it...

The problem, of course, is that The Mac Way is arcane.

Multiple parts. You can concatenate them using the standard Unix
"cat" command in the Terminal. "cd" to your download folder, do

cat Messiaen_Kubelik.zip.* > Messiaen_Kubelik.zip

and then drag the new file onto Stuffit Expander. No extra
utilities needed.

I didn't know that catting them would work. I did try Stuffit Expander
on the original files, but that didn't work.

I've always used Split & Concat, available at

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13072

I think it's also what Mac Par Deluxe uses "seamlessly" or whatever the
terminology is for assembling multi-part files.

cheers,
Mike
